The Black Monologues: A Call for Dialogue

  1. What will “Black Monologues: A Call for Dialogue” be?
    • It will be a collection of video-documented stories of people’s experiences of Blackness.
  2. What is the purpose of this project?
    • To give more of a voice to the underrepresented groups of Black students on campus who need a space to express their experiences of being Black at UBC. Recognizing that there seems to be a societal need to categorize others, this project aims to be a platform for people to define themselves (and not for others to define them)!
  3. What is CAA’s vision for this project?
    • This series aims to be a new way to tackle misrepresentation of identity. It aims to highlight that there is danger in only seeing a single story (This project was inspired by the remarkable Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie).
