The Black Monologues: A Call for Dialogue
- What will “Black Monologues: A Call for Dialogue” be?
- It will be a collection of video-documented stories of people’s experiences of Blackness.
- What is the purpose of this project?
- To give more of a voice to the underrepresented groups of Black students on campus who need a space to express their experiences of being Black at UBC. Recognizing that there seems to be a societal need to categorize others, this project aims to be a platform for people to define themselves (and not for others to define them)!
- What is CAA’s vision for this project?
- This series aims to be a new way to tackle misrepresentation of identity. It aims to highlight that there is danger in only seeing a single story (This project was inspired by the remarkable Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie).
Mentorship Program

- What is the purpose of this program?
- To assist first and second year students with their university integration experience as well as to help them establish a sense of belonging to the club. The purpose is also to create a support system for these new students and to allow 3rd and 4th year students to give something back to the UBC community.
- What is going to be unique about CAA’s mentorship program?
- The mentor-mentee pairing will each work on a project of some sort together that ties to CAA’s purpose of increasing awareness about the Caribbean
